Water soluable dots will wash off after reflow. A water soluable liquid mask will work as well. dots are better for defined (round)holes, whereas the liquid mask works well with odd shapes.

The solder on the rest of the board looks good. There are no large components around these parts. We check the profile using a KIC and it met the recommendations of the solder paste manufacturer. I have not did a dip test of the board or components.

I am concerned about delamination and other modes of damaging the board itself. Am I mistaken to believe that raising the entire board to near reflow temperatures (during the repair of a single BGA) may damage the quality of the board?

some water managed to leak onto a couple of backplanes boards. The OP. has blown any water off the boards, would these need to be baked ?
