SMT voiding

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 25 13:35:47 EDT 2012 | davef

Here's a paper that may help http://www.ipcoutlook.org/pdf/assembly_challenges_bottom_terminated_ipc.pdf Temperature Impact * Profile didn’t have a significant impact on voiding. * Voids slightly increased with higher temperature. Reflow Atmosp

MPM UP 2000 conveyor misalignment

Electronics Forum | Tue Oct 09 11:42:42 EDT 2012 | cyber_wolf

Actually the correct way to fix this is to carefully remove the belt on the rear of the machine that connects the left and right rail lead screws together. Square the rails then carefully re-install the belt *without turning either of the lead screws

Tankless ... What I Took Away

Electronics Forum | Fri Feb 22 18:19:16 EST 2013 | davef

First, it's not a simple as thinking just about your electric meter. * Water heaters need to be DI proof, stainless or ceramic. * The longer that DI water is exposed to air, then closer it becomes like tap water. So, you need to be monitoring DI leve

QFN PCB Pad no Drain Hole

Electronics Forum | Fri May 17 20:11:32 EDT 2013 | isd_jwendell

I am familiar with TI's documents on QFN mounting. I do not have an X-Ray machine, so I worry about excessive voiding that could happen with using the thermal vias improperly. As a general rule-of-thumb, I print paste with a 25% reduction on the ther

Selective Solder Clinched Components

Electronics Forum | Mon Jul 08 13:10:55 EDT 2013 | rgduval

As with any issue like this, your miileage may vary with suggestions....but, here are the items I would consider: 1. Clinch tightness. I believe IPC gives a recommendation on the amount of bend in a clinched lead; make sure you're not beyond that.

YesTech F1 speed

We have inline reworkers, so this time has been factored in. We currently use Siemens S25/20 machines with M1 systems. The placement machines run a little slower than the AOI at times so there is time to perform review, most of the time. It's not

Quad 4C origin unstable

Electronics Forum | Fri Jul 19 18:21:17 EDT 2013 | microaide

We recently purchased some used Quad 4C machines. One of them does not seem to keep a stable origin reference point. I teach the nozzle and component pickup coordinates, then suddenly everything seems to be off by .030 to .040 inches in the X axis. I

Solder joint dewetting or non wetting

Electronics Forum | Tue Nov 05 09:57:45 EST 2013 | cuperpeter

Hello All, We have a problem with dewetting of solder paste. Problem is most visible on the pads without components (see attached pictures) and occurs randomly, 20% of PCB's. Pcb supplier sent us a cross-section of pads with thickness of Cu, Ni and

Lead free designated soldering irons

Electronics Forum | Tue Mar 25 14:19:02 EDT 2014 | barryg

Hello everyone. I have a question pertaining to solder irons, tips and solder stations. We recently have set up our lead free wave and reflow oven. We still have quite a few projects that require leaded solder. I was curious how others handle rework

Solder climbs on the lead and touches the body of the component

Electronics Forum | Mon May 12 13:55:19 EDT 2014 | hegemon

It sounds like a bit too much solder on the PWB, caused by too large a pad for the lead it will contain. In that case solder reduction is the way to move forward. What are the options there? 1. New stencil or stencils - (not desirable) 2. Increas
