Reflow for the first time

Get yourself a KIK Oven and Wave Profiler. It will get you in the Ballpark before burning down the joint. Easy to use and talk to your paste supplier. Murray

Deni, I would suggest to install bottom heater. The rest is absolutely OK. Is your plant ready to accept orders for space shuttles PCBAs and medical ones? I would place a couple of POs. Regards, Pavel

Deni, I would suggest N2O over straight Nitrogen, as you will immediately find your results more satisfying, and any defects will become less of an immediate concern.

In modern electronics, Reflow soldering is a very effective method for soldering printed circuit boards with lots of surface mount components. In some reflow ovens, the PCBs are snapped in a frame that touches the PCB only on the edges.

Solder splash from component terminal

Hi fellow professionals, Wondering whether anyone has experience with solder splashing from component terminal. Have identified the source using the component without printing solder paste on PCB. Wondering the root-cause of the solder splashing fr

Could be that your temperature ramp up rate is too fast. This could cause the flux in the solder paste to burn off too rapidly. When that happens, it can expand as it heats up and burns off, causing the solder to get spread out from the pad.

Thanks for input, dyoungquist. The condition here is without any flux or paste applied. Solder from component terminal started splashing by itself when put through re-flow.

warp and twist

I have been asked a very good question but have not been able to find a good answer. IPC for both PCB and PCBA refer to the X & Y dimensions to measure warp and twist but how would you determine the warp and twist for a round PCB or PCBA?

Hi Dave, Thank you for your inputs as they were good suggestions. I however let out one important detail and that this is IMS material and not glass reinforced so I think that there is more bending going on during processing than warping and twistin
