Daan has made a valid point with regards to expertise and use of a machine. Yet I recognize that with advanced technology, trades must occur. A hghly sophisticated AOI unit can and will help reduce overall cost of production. Therefore, a need to ha

AOI vs AXI

If your goal is to inspect solder joints then X-ray is the way to go. AOI is not effective at solder joint and is best at component inspection. Using an AXI or AOI for solder joint inspection requires a lot of engineering time. Don't know any good si

how do you justify the use of a AOI. I have heard about CyberOptics AOI, have any of you? Thanks

Effectiveness of an AOI

Electronics Forum | Tue Mar 04 18:05:03 EST 2003 | msivigny

Hello Maribel, One way you justify the use of an AOI is to calculate how many defects the system will potentially detect before reflow, associate a repair cost per defect and make the calculation. For an AOI to be effective in this regard, it must sc

First we have to look in to the current situiation of the SMT line.Is the pick and place machine very old and can not perform consistently. Is the board to be inspected is very dense and have lots of connectors and fine pitch comp.with lots of 0402 c

My engineering couterpart has the task to evaluate AOI and we will be receiving one next month. In most of the articles I've read, AOI is deemed effective post paste and post pick-and-place (pre-reflow), but there are rarely discussions about post re

AOI is very cost effective when you are dealing with that many assemblies. Once you do an ROI, you'll find that it probably will pay for itself within 12 months. The reality that many managers can't bring themselves to do is that if you bring on AOI,

I would agree with innova's suggestion of Marantz. I've seen 3 different AOI machines implemented into our shop, and you really have to consider the ease of use, and possibility of defects that operators can introduce. AOI's, theoretically, look good

Have a look at AOI Systems Scanspection AOI. The desk top unit is very affordable, easy to use, and a very effective tool for new users to AOI. Visit http://www.aoisystems.com for more information or send me a PM and I will be happy to talk with yo

Can multiple AOI systems in a production line be cost effective or should I use a single tool?
