In the same line of thought as Bob R. The people that should be backing up the machine's software programs are the people that would be most affected by not backing it up.

How about, "Who is the person who'll be called in to spend the weekend getting the machine back up and running after a crash? If it's your home phone number on the maintenance supervisor's speed dial then it's in your best interest to have a back up

We run our company like this: If you see job to do then it is yours. usually I try to get IT to come up with auto method if machines are networked.
