I used to be pretty active on the selective memory front. Now I'm lucky to remember stuff I want to, never mind stuff I'd like to forget (although typically my spouse won't allow it).

you should be able to work out the resistance of the heater element from the power rating (watts), and the Voltage its working at. then measure the resistance of the element and see if your anywhere near.

Ps the above answer was to test if the element is failing, if you think the element is not working due to the current supply being limited you can carry out the same calculations but work out the current required then put an ammeter in series with th

I hope you are not trying to melt the Ceramic BGA columns. these are not meant to melt. I would run a lead process at peak temp of 225 -230C with lead paste. The board warpage may be of design issue or Manufacture issue. Russ

We have a board we run screwed to a fixture. There is no warping that way. If you go for reheating the BGA's make sure there is no time for the BGA's to absorb moisture.

My Peak ~ 228-230C (customer wants to see this temperature). solder ball size - 20mil diameter Please advise ASAP. Thanks a lot!!!

you may want to try a different MFGR of paste, this does help on many occasions. Russ

very minimal at very few locations. We do not Xray every board but sample them. I think you will find pretty good results here (not perfect) Russ

OK. Thanks!! Lastly, is it the nature of the chemistry that Sn/Pb solder mixed with Pb-free alloy will be getting voids? If so, what's the physic/chemistry behind it?
Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 05 07:58:05 EDT 2006 | realchunks
I have noticed certain BGAs void more than others. We place about 8 different brands of BGAs and only one brand voids like crazy and we have to adjust for it.
