Basic rules: 1. The longer the oven the better(if you have the space)- better temp control, better repeatability, better throughput. 2. Only convection - don't get IR heaters 3. Buy reputable brand machine

Or Vapour Phase... which could fit in a similar space, offer safe even heating and use less power.

Thanks all for your replies. I ended up getting an older second hand machine (2003 Heller 1707 EXL) from a local company upgrading their assembly line. It is in mint conditions and was used in air conditioned room and had maintenance every 3 months.

Would a sealed cabinet injected with nitrogen which has also passed through dessicant provide ideal storage ? ..dry and little oxygen..

I represent ECD, They manufacture the SmartDRY series of dissicator storage cabinets. Nitrogen costs can add up if you are in and out the cabinets during a shift. Info here; http://www.ecd(dot) com/

There may be other ways around it - there is some excellent 3rd party support for the old GEM series especially in Europe and the UK, but I'm guessing you are in the USA?
