You should see a coarse silverish / grayish coat on the termination that indicates that it soldered. We have to opinion [don't know] about the strength of solder connection versus the strength of component terminations.

A highly activated flux will begin to corrode the imm tin coating after 10 minutes. Corroded tin has poor solderability.

One of the requirements for our components and PCBs is fluid compatibility. They are tested by a 30 second immersion in the applicable solvent/cleaner/fluid, then they are tested for functionality and degradation.

Dear Frank, could it be that your component legs are coated with a leadfree finish? This can have an inpact on soldering when your temp.peak in only 220�C and the melting point of pure Tin is 237�C. Best regards, Daniel

Gun wash is another term used for acrylic laquer thinner. We use DuPont 3642SC. We have much success in its use.
