Some people involved in PCB assembly process claim that SMD components reflow soldering problems are often caused by traces running under a component. According to this claim, trace (or any copper) covered by solder mask and placed under SMD componen

I am looking for a tool to measure copper thickness on finished circuit boards. I saw one of these once being used for incoming inspection. Can someone point me to where I can find such a tool? Thanks, Mike.

No paper thing, while I can make some suggestions based on my experience. what is the size of your via? If it's smaller than dia0.4mm, in PCB production process it should be filled by soldermask. So my suggestion is design it to be full filled by SM

Check out IPC-A-600. Revision G (July 2004) section 3.2.3 (surface) and section 3.2.4 (internal) give min/max thicknesses for various weight copper. The min also changes depending on what class (1-3) standard you are working to.

Is there any way to measure the copper oxide thickness on the inner layers of a PCB? I have been asked to investigate this and am not sure if it is possible. If it is, please tell me by what method, any contract labs that can do it, or the name of

Thanks for all comments. Process was adjusted normally, problem was in PCBs. Microsection of bare boards confirm that the copper thickness in troughholes was unsuffient, sometimes below 10 microns, on soldered boards where there were a problems durin

Paul, I would do two things, eval whole lot for any etching issues as shown above and scrap and two I would have your copper thickness checked, my guess your copper plating will be low. Check plating thickness in Via holes - if less then 8/10th's r

We understand that you have boards in production that you need to ship. In the future, you could eliminate your moisture caused blow hole issue a lot more simply than baking. Consider requiring that your board fab plate the copper thickness of throug

2 oz copper should be 2 oz per ft^2 thick. There is no relationship between thickness and copper weight due to the effect of processing. Since this is a painful way of thinking about things, ppl have reached a compromise and talk about 'nominal thick

I have a new customer that has a print calling for 2oz. copper finish for top and bottom layers, and 1oz. copper finish for the inner 6 layers. Now, they also have a stack up depicting each layer and thickness. It shows the outer layers of copper b
