Altitude and solder voids

Electronics Forum | Thu Nov 01 10:57:34 EDT 2012 | kris1128

Has anyone heard whether the elevation of a plant can effect solder joint formation? One plant at sea level, one at 7,000 feet elevation... same equipment and profiles, big voiding defects at higher elevation. I did a search and found no similar post

WSOL and solder pot

Electronics Forum | Wed Mar 12 16:30:45 EDT 2008 | operator

I witnessed this at our sister company. It seems to be their standard process. It is not my place to interfere with their processes. I was just curious if there was any chance of brittle solder joints or other defects that might be caused from the WS

wave soldering and solder bridge

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 17 11:55:08 EST 2007 | chef

I recently had the same problems, solder bridges on every thing I made, different customers boards, etc. I wave with no-clean flux. As I sorted out problems (pin holes, blow holes, splatter, etc.) I found a lot of variable factors. I changed flux,

Soldering robot and solder balls

There are several different technologies in the industry today to assist in the out-gassing of flux cores. On automated soldering systems, there are two main types of perforating solder feeders: - Hole Drilling - "V" Scoring By perforating the so

No solder and solder bridge after Wave solder machine

Hi, We have a board with over 100 chips (mixed size) and some long Connector DIP through out Wave solder with many issues of no solder and solder bridge, (using clean flux with bubble fluxer and Kester solder bar). Currently we tried to reduce the de

Evalution on solder paste and spray flux

Electronics Forum | Thu Jan 27 11:23:45 EST 2005 | russ

Well first off I wouldn't evaluate paste for a wave process. I would use solder bar instead. Flux - top side fillets and no shorting on the solder side, does it clean well after processing if using water soluble flux. How wide is the process win

PPM rate for wave and selective solder

Have you check the flux gravity lately? If not, Check the flux gravity every 6 hours to make sure proper parameters are meet. Here is a list of things that may cause your solder ball problems; Excecive heat, defective fixtures, preheating temperature

"Gap" in completed solder joint between lead and pad

Electronics Forum | Wed Nov 29 11:46:57 EST 2006 | slthomas

IPC 610 *C* states that the solder thickness requirement is a properly wetted termination is evident. Fillet height is another aspect and is usually specific to the package but is some function of solder thickness plus a percentage of lead height. D
