Dear All, What is the possible root causes of the dendrite growth? How long its take to cause this dendrite growth? Can dendrite growth cause electrical short? Is there any particular location on PCBA that dendrite tend to grow? Thanks, Sean

In the portion of Chapter 1 on Flip Chips, Ken Gallio states (1.8.2.1) "tin/lead solder leaching or dissolving gold and form metal compounds, called dendrites, that greatly reduce joint reliability because of high brittleness." What is the compositi

The last time I encountered dendrite growth, it was within a component package. I believe we were experiencing it within a crystal. The root cause was water intrusion during in line wash. The component was supposed to have been sealed and safe for

Heres background on: * Electromigration: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromigration * Dendrite: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dendrite_(crystal) For us, electromigration is the electrochemical process that creates dendrites. As a bonus, here's

We're getting field failures in a high impedance portion of the circuit. Think the unpopulated pc card has contaminates because we were able to grow dendrites by applying a 9 volt battery across the suspected pad, placed a drop of de-ionized water o
