Reflow oven profile

Jan 25, 2017 | This is our practice already, common profile both sides and we perform it during NPI stage. As long as zone settings are the same and profile requirements are meet, we consider it as same profile and no need to re-profile from bottom side process to top side. But, not all double sided PCB , it depends on components installed each side. Others might not applicable to use same zone settings if other side is populated with large size of components.

PCB Surface Finishing for good solderability & rework

Jul 15, 2015 | Hi brothers, Can anyone give me some clear ideas that which surface finishing is the best for PCBs used for LED TV motherboard production? Some says that OSP is good but it is not good for double sided board. So I am a bit confused in between HASL,OSP and Immersion plating. PCB Surface Finishing for good solderability & rework

Regarding the choosing of right Suface Finishing

Apr 29, 2015 | Immersion tin is very sensitive for handling, scratches, storage condition and time, thermal influence and washing. You will get problems in second reflow if you have double sided PCB with immersion tin surface finish.

PCB SHELF LIFE AFTER FIRST REFLOW

Feb 9, 2015 | What is the maximum PCB shelf life for double side PCBs after first reflow? I mean, after assembly bottom side, how long can I keep the PCB without solder paste waiting for the second reflow? (Considering exposure on production environment conditions) I didn't find any recommendation on IPC PCB SHELF LIFE AFTER FIRST REFLOW

warpage after reflow

Oct 7, 2014 | Hi, 1. I will run the board on the mesh if single sided. 2. For double sided board, I will try stiffeners. 3. If stiffeners don't work, then you have to create a handling fixture(holds the board and has enough openings to let the air flow to the PCB)

OSP PCB Plating

Jul 18, 2014 | Thanks Mac! I have been doing a lot of reading and I think I understand me challenge ahead of me. I do however have a double sided assembly and the BGA's are on the second side. So I know I have to make this a quick build…. June OSP PCB Plating

OSP PCB Plating

Jul 17, 2014 | Hi June, The biggest issue with an OSP finish is as soon as the PCB sees a heat cycle (reflow or wave) the finish will begin to degrade. If you have a single sided SMT assembly with THT components installed downstream it works pretty good. But a double sided SMT with THT may have issues wetting OSP PCB Plating

0201's on a VERY thin .010

Jan 21, 2013 | A good fixture is the key here. The first side should be easier than te second(if double sided). In both cases I will try to level the top of the board with the top of the fixture. Try to lock with pins comming from the fixture to the PCB holes. This way you can rely on a good support for printing

Pad finish

Oct 6, 2010 | for double sided reflow and storage, but you have to make sure your pcb supplier gives you pads with HASL on and not pads with tin/copper intermetallic on. > I've done minimal research to this point and > understand my issue with solder on the double > sided boards is due to oxidation that occures on > the unpopulated pads when the board makes its > first trip through the reflow oven. > > We did run > both sides in a short time span, but the damage > is still evident. Bottom side adheasive

Dec 15, 2008 | We have been running double sided surface mount pcb assembly for several years with no adhesive needed. We paste, place and reflow one side, then repeat the process for the other side. With Rs, Cs and small to medium ICs we have no problem with parts falling off the bottom side when the pcb goes Bottom side adheasive throught the oven for the second time. In your case I am assuming you have more parts on the top side than the bottom side. I would load the bottom side with the few Rs and Cs first, then load the top side second. Unless you have very large Rs and Cs, you should not need any adhesive.

Missprint PCB cleaning

Aug 11, 2008 | Hi All We are looking for not expensive solution for misprint PCB cleaning for both one and double side assemblies. We have tried different ways and cleaning solutions like: IPA, Vigon Zestron SD300, Vigon SC200 by deep the boards in to stainless steel bath and brush them. IPA is a chip solution but it works fine only on PCB's one side soldering. The same with SD 300. SC200 also working good but PCB's should be dried or baked properly before soldering because it is water bases solution. Does some one have more convenience solution without using any machinery? Underfill rework issue

Sep 2, 2007 | Hi every one I would like to have some inputs here,I would be very appreciated if you can give your suggestion; Currently we are working on 2 underfilled BGAs with SRT-1800 rework station(hot air type),one is mounted on a single sided PCB whereas the other is mounted on a double sided PCB .PCBs are FR-4 epoxy/laminate and have some thickness of 0.5mm.Design for two BGAs are same with 0.5mm pitch and 0.32 pad size. It was strange that we reworked BGA mounted on single sided PCB sucessfully without any pad loss, however, failed in rework of double sided PCB with 1 pad loss at least. Can anyone help

But, I am reflowing both bottom and top side of the PCB.

PbF PCB finish

Feb 5, 2007 | ASIR, Findings for us so far: OSP- has worked well for us for single sided boards only. We have seen problems with using it on double sided reflow applications. Also, some customers have specified OSP, but are intolerant of exposed copper. Limited shelf life Silver- Seems to work well. Have had some vendor quality problems from the board houses. If double sided, secand reflow must be ASAP as silver begins to tarnish almost immediately after first reflow. Storage conditions are critical. Tin- We have had nothing but problems with tin. Short shelf life. ENIG- My preferred plating. Wets well PbF PCB finish

Double sided BGAs

Jun 23, 2005 | Double sided BGAs We are defining a new assembly process for a double sided card that has 26 BGAs on the top side and 14 BGAs on the bottom side. We currently have one double sided BGA board with one BGA per side and have to epoxy one BGA (35mm X 35mm - 352 ball count)to keep it from falling off during 2nd reflow . How do you process double sided BGAs at your facility? The biggest BGA on the bottom side of the new board is 17mm X 17mm (241 ball count) Will the surface tension be enough to keep it in place during 2nd reflow?

Non-wetting: PTH on double-side reflow

Apr 6, 2005 | Non-wetting: PTH on double-side reflow We process a double-side reflow board (10 ups). Chips and IC's on the bottom side while chips, IC's plus thru-hole connectors and IC sockets on top side (bottom side first then top side reflow). In the past, we were not encountering any soldering problem with our connectors (balls at the tip of the double-header connector pins and no solder at the plated thru-hole bottom side, it looks insufficient solder on the base where fillet should form. The current oven profile (Omniflo 7, SuperMole DeLuxe) as compared to the previous ones, shows no variation. The problem problem consistently occurs on one

Currently we are building at a prototype level with no appreciable wait between reflow passes. The part in question is a 64 pin QFP. We use a BTU VIP 98 with edge conveyor. The PCB is 0.032" FR4, so it is susceptible

Double Sided Reflow

Mar 17, 2005 | We are moving into using fine pitch components in a double sided reflow process. Reflowing <.032

Feb 17, 2005 | We have PCB's that have been poorly designed and do not have enough support. A quick fix, so they don't bow in the oven, is to set them on a stronger frame, before reflow, from a panel that has been singulated. Single or double sided? Hope I interpreted your post right.

Mar 22, 2004 | After 2nd time reflow of double reflow, wrinkles solder joints found on SOIC and SOT components.(only happen on the components at the underside of pcb during reflow, top side components dont have this problem) is this due to the reflow process problems? any way to avoid this problem? will it cause wrinkles solder joints after double reflow

Conformal coating (again)

Jan 26, 2004 | I have a product that has earthing/positioning holes, as they are to be used for earthing purposes they need to be free from conformal coating. This pcb is double sided. I have used spot/peelable mask to protect these holes. However when the conformal coating has been applied (using a spray can ) the coating on the 1st side appears to be de-wetting around the masked areas. The 2nd side is not showing any signs of this at all. I assumed that the peelable mask had introduced contamination. If this is not the case can anyone offer an explanation as to why one side bad, other good? Thanks. Loz
