Solder pot contamination

Electronics Forum | Mon Aug 09 20:47:21 EDT 2004 | KEN

I think OA flux left on the pot would quickly looses its activity and become part of the dross waste stream, and smoke stream for that matter. Also, if your wave is setup properly your selective pallets will scour (push) the top of the lambda wav

It's the same like asking wether you get a gold-contaminated solder pot when soldering ENIG boards. As long as the replenishment of dross is large compared to the intake of contaminant, the contamination level will stay within acceptable levels.

To reduce the dross formation in wave soldering process

We installed a fixed distance optical sensor above the conveyor rail and "wired it" throught he machines terminal bus to cut the pump on only when a board was present at the pot. We also installed a timer in line so the pump would only stay on long e

What type of wave machine? Does your machine have a pump speed dial? Does your machine have the ability to raise and lower the pot? Raise pot to as close as possible to the pallets/boards and make sure they can pass over the nozzle without hanging o

To reduce the dross formation in wave soldering process

Dross formation rates for SnCu and SAC are roughly 2.5 times the rate for SnPb (Hwang et al., 2004) Methods for reducing dross are: * Lower pot temperature * Run pump speed slower and only when soldering * Check solder contaminants to BS219, ASTM

DROSS in Wave

Best dross remover is to not produce dross. Search the fine SMYnet Archives for previous discussions Dross will not increase signicantly * Another story, that lead-free solders will generate a greater volume of dross than conventional materials, is

Leadfree Dross in Wave Solderpot

Electronics Forum | Fri Feb 25 18:13:17 EST 2005 | davef

Your leadfree dross should float, similar to your leaded dross. It's possible you're thinking about the process for removing excess copper from the solder pot. Following the same process, with: * Leaded solder, the copper floats. So, you scoop the

Leadfree Dross in Wave Solderpot

I believe I read somewhere, that using leadfree solder in the wave, the dross will actually collect in the bottom of the solderpot. I can't remember where I read this (maybe a nightmarrish dream I had one night). If so, how do you remove it from the
