Which chemicals do you need and what process are you running? PCB manufacture is a fairly well understood , but there are quite a few complex processes. To end up with a board. there are a few small specialist suppliers like Think/Tinker and MG Chemi

Your puzzlement about blowholes in PTH solder connections during reflow soldering comes from: * Boards are hydroscopic. So, moisture content of the board is uniform. * Gold plating is uniform. * Nickle plating is uniform. * Copper plating on your PTH

Iman When you talk about your profile, can we assume you're measuring it on the pads of LGA? Profile the solder paste reflow by placing a thermal couple under the component pad, similar to a BGA. On a slight tangent, as with soldering BGA, paste

I have a small PCB which has gold finger edge connector along one side. This limits the PCB fabricator panelization due to the bevel required on the edge connector Does anyone know of a simple process to add the bevel AFTER the boards are assembled a

Yes, providing the surface of the via is solderable. * If so, how much paste? => Vias come in various sizes. Boards vary in thickness. So, the amount of paste to fill a via varies. Roughly, youll need twice as much paste as the volume of the via

Measured the pot temprature independantly from the software (268C/514F from moving wave). We are using Dross Inhibiter Tin/P Regenerator from BLT. Monthly sample checks are carried out on the solder bath and are all within limits. It will be hard to

That you can get good solder flow when hand soldering seems to indicate that the temperature of your solder pot is too low. Still, I'm uneasy that you see gold on the pads after passing the board across the solder pot. Gold is so thin with ENIG. So

Dennis: Direct metalization is more of an European phenomena than a US one. Not to say that good things dont come out of Europe. As background: Direct Metallization. In circuit board fabrication, an alternative to electroless plating makes the

Board fabricators use solder as a resist to protect copper traces from process chemicals. Fabricators remove this resist in later processing. It's possible that board fabrication processing is the source of the tin that you see.

| Will somebody please explain HASL (here). Thanks. Tryin: HASL: Hot Air Solder Leveled. A board fabrication process that applies an oxidation preventing solder coating to copper pads on the board. Dave F
