Retesting is reasonable, but using paste the has an expired shelf life is dicey biz. * Use fresh paste * Buy in small containers Sure it's expensive to toss, but the price you pay in rework and defective product may be higher.

I bet your vendor would take it back and replace it for free. Never hurts to ask. Otherwise toss and use fresh - why chance a career on it. Plus, Murphy's law says if you do use it, you will have unexplained anomalies that will force you to questi

Solderability of Resistor Network Arrays

Electronics Forum | Wed May 29 14:58:41 EDT 2002 | R.Barcelos

There has been an increase in the number of defects regarding the solderability of resistor network arrays(pin opens specifically). Has anyone else experienced this? Also, does anyone have any FYI that they would like to share?

Not sure of the package style or the specific problem you're talking about, but consider searching the fine SMTnet Archives since we have talked about this previously, several times.

I recognize this problem as well, building only prototypes with all attention possible, the (small) networks need extra attention for they show opens. Maybe it helps to increase the placementforce a bit to increase the contact area to the paste befor

gold connectors

Hello Russ, I'm not quite sure I understand your question. Are you saying that you must hand solder these connectors because the gold plating doesn't allow other though hole processing methods to wet the solder the length of the pin in the PTH? Reg

Jim, you are right in this. these connectors have long pins 1/2" or so that protrude through the board and are used for mating into a female connector on some other assembly. due to both length and "no solder allowed in contact area" criterias thes
