Amol, good call there. Silicone mask and silicone coatings are friendly with each other. This was 1995, and at the time, there were no silicone boots available on the market.

In the past we have used immersion tin as an alternative for HASL. Our biggest problem was shelf life. The tin oxidized very rapidly. We switched to immersion gold and have had great success.

When we have warpage issues we use Titanium Panel Stiffeners even though the stiffeners are mainly used for Wave we find little issue for reflow. Mind you the boards have to be large enough.

Silver tarnish on lead could compromise the soldering, mainly in case of No Clean process. Make sure components are correctly packaged and stored. Check the vintage ( Manufacturing Data Code) and in order to avoid them to get old on shelf make sure F

weve hand soldered a few components that were tarnished with no problems, also the tarnish is electrically conductive if it helps.
