Baking PWBs prior to wave solder

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 16 15:10:56 EST 2002 | Randy Villeneuve

We do not bake any of our boards prior to wave solder. If we did we would have one heck of a large oven. I would assume you are concerned about moisture sensitive components. In most cases your top side parts should only get to 80 degrees centigarde

Lattice Orca heatsink to PCB

Electronics Forum | Thu Dec 19 20:03:27 EST 2002 | edmentzer

Does any one have any experince with heatsinking a 240 lead QFP such as the Lattice Orca to the PCB? I have a customer who would like to know how this might be done. We are thinking of using some solder paste under the center of the part, or using

Unconventional way of making a PCB

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 23 17:36:23 EST 2002 | davef

Periodically, we get ahead of ourselves and find that we have fabricated boards that require jumpers and other modications. Alternatives are: * Add 'white wire' jumpers and mod the components as third ops * Print, cure, and seal 'jumpers' of epoxy i

Optical comparator capabilities built into chip shooters

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 24 13:02:26 EST 2002 | cnotebaert

Are you sure your custoemr didn't get a little confused with what he saw or was told? When he says optical comparator is he talking about the basic component recognition system? some machines when showing the component (on the CRT) show a template th

Ekra E5 cleaner dispenser problem

Electronics Forum | Mon Jan 06 11:04:39 EST 2003 | slthomas

Bummer. Are you using the EPAC stuff that they recommend, or something else? We used IPA for a while, then changed to a run-of-the-mill stencil cleaning solvent (aliphatic hydrocarbon based, like the EPAC solvent) that's a lot cheaper and does the

silver pads, reflow charateristics??

Electronics Forum | Wed Jan 15 11:42:57 EST 2003 | burb1999

we have recently been trying silver composition on our pads with our PCB boards. I am wondering what if any characteristics are different from tin etc... I have found with profiling the board it to be about the same temps. but getting granular looki

Support is ok but parts could be a problem...If you are buying an older machine you have to be careful because you may not be able to get parts.Tyco is still selling machines new and/or refurbed but there are lots of deals to be made elsewhere (used

Stenciling chipbonder.....

Electronics Forum | Fri Jan 24 17:53:42 EST 2003 | razan3

Chipbonder is best applied with a stencil. Too bad on the dispenser purchase. Little hint, use a Kapton Stencil. You can have them laser cut and can get them as thick as you want. Another advantage is the ability to make shapes etc for cleaning

Placement Equipment

Electronics Forum | Fri Jan 24 17:07:55 EST 2003 | razan3

This question is like asking what kind of boat should you buy. Depends on what you do with it.... I would ditto the CP40. Good discrete placer and very reliable. Your PCB Design, Stencil, Reflow Oven and Paste selected are just as critical to you

Wave Soldering - Icicling/Bridges

Electronics Forum | Fri Jan 24 09:04:54 EST 2003 | russ

How are these connectors and dips oriented? If the leads are parallel as opposed to perpendicular to to the wave this can promote bridging depending on spacing and length. The long leads showing icicling are most likely either inadequate heat OR the
