Re: Gold plated components - solderability issue

| Hi, | We have encountered de-wetting issues with gold plated components( SMT LEDs ). | The problem comes and go and we yet to locate the root cause ( process, component or solder paste etc ). | The rest of the components on the boards are not havi

Okay, here goes another thread about gold plating. I have been using gold plated PCB's for about two years now, with mostly very good results. The main reason I started using gold in the first place was because it is flat, solder wets to it nicely,

Adaptable PCB support systems for use in pick and place machines?

Adding to my previous message this could be solved fairly easily for the general case with a jig made from 3.2 - 4mm aluminium aircraft grade plate. you would machine the bottom side edges to give a 1.6 mm thickness, then machine the top side to leav

As per Travis's reply it could be something other than the reflow process. Another good one is if the printed PCB's have been cleaned down due to print misregistration etc.. If not properly controlled paste residues can remain distributed about the p

Is there any chance that something like a riv-nut might be used for mounting purposes or is it just a screw hole?

| | Anyone ever attach gold bump flip chip to FR4 or Alumina substrates. Am trying to find a solder which is acceptable for use on gold. Am worried about gold imbrittlement since the gold bumps on the flip chip are .004"x.004"x.001" solid gold. The
