Hi All, I have a question to ask. Do we really need ESD kapton tape to be use inside SMT line/ production? Anyway the purpose of the kapton tape is to protect gold finger/ wirebond area from solder splatter. Please advise.

In Eagle 6.0 and later you can edit the XML directly it should be fairly trivial. Then download the Eagle free package from the CADoft website to view and it should be okay regards sarason

Preemptively you can apply Kapton tape to protect the gold fingers during reflow. I think that's what most people do. After the fact, there are services available to clean them up but as it was described in another thread here, it is not in-expensiv

Every place I have ever worked has taped off the gold fingers. Maybe not the first run but within a few runs.

How can you make a cathode for selective gold plating edge connector. I know you can add bus/tie bars but we want to remove them and just want to do selective hard gold plating of gold fingers.

it can be a bad contact with backboard. clean the slot and gold fingers with contact cleaner and push it in and out a few times.
