Solder fume during soldering

Electronics Forum | Thu Jun 09 13:54:42 EDT 2005 | ppwlee

I'm curious what other companies are doing in their soldering area (wave/ hand solder/ solder fountain) to ensure thier employees are protected sufficiently against solder fume and lead oxides. Subsequently what it implies in terms of selecting the r

Possible to water wash no-clean solder paste boards?

Yes, if not done correctly, you will have a mess on your hands and probably do more harm than good. It can be done, though and has gotten much more common and easier to do. If you are ordering cleaning chemicals, your supplier can guide you through

Hand Soldering-Mixing Sn63 and L-F Processes

Electronics Forum | Thu Aug 11 07:41:55 EDT 2005 | rsmith@z-mar.com

I do recommend dedicated tips and dedicated workstations. Make sure that your tips come in with no lead in the tinning. There is a new, green heat resistant table mat that is being used in the industry to identify lead free areas. If operators see gr

kapton dots and liquid solder mask

Electronics Forum | Tue Aug 09 10:01:26 EDT 2005 | pr

We have some large plated through holes, that we protect with hand placed Kapton dots before they go into the wave. Is there a better option? We are going to see if the boardhouse can put them on for us but I was curious how others are/would do this.

One more thing to think about - if placing BGA's using water sol., you must ensure they are clean and dry beneath the component post wash. A few ways to do this. Simplest is to use DI from low pressurized nozzle and hand wash them at different atta

Thanks Rob, I have samples and production quantities that we are running on leaded assemblies now. I guess my next question would be, if you are already building lead-free assemblies, how are you processing the electrolity and tantalum caps? The o
