One way we handle this situation is to produce a wave pallet that presents the pcb at an angle to the wave to stagger the leads of the connector.

Omid It depends. Follow the guidelines of ANSI/J-STD-033, Standard for Handling, Packing, Shipping, and Use of Moisture/Reflow Sensitive Surface Mount Devices. It's available on-line.

That could lead to oxidation of the leads and worsen solderability. It's much better to make sure the components are handled properly and not exposed to moisture. The reason for baking is moisture in the body not in the leads. Why is no one suggest

How are they being stored and handled? It might be an MSD issue. I think IR reflow would be a worst case scenario.

Hi Adam, Since you don't see any cracking right after re-flow, then the most probable cause is the board flexture during handling/assembly. I bet you see cracking in the outer row(s) and mainly in the corner balls. Regards, Vlad

Adam, Most leadfree components can handle only 260C. When you doing the profile, you should put thermocouple on the of the BGA package and to ensure the temp is not go over 260C.

I've made storage bins made from old beer cases i had laying around. Seems to work well and I can check to see if any parts broke off b y looking at the bottom of the case.

What are you currently using to store boards in between processes and/or work stations, and during manual assembly (assuming there is some)?

Chunks, Are you completely happy with the gel flex system ? You say you use it on pick and place too. What types of machines do you have ?
