There is no advantage for fabricators or assemblers. In high speed memory busses, designers zigzag the traces to keep all of the traces within a certain length of each other.

Seems like a file was corrupted on the hard drive. Hopefully you have it backed up. We take a hard drive image of every machine on delivery in case of a hard drive failure or corruption.

I would start by checking the caps on the PC board. I used to have the same machine & they would fail every few years which could cause some random errors to appear on times.
