At Altos Engineering we do a lot of process testing of our TVP drying systems for demoisturizing. We store test devices in metalized vapor-proof bags. Instead of heat sealing, we use Croc-Clamps to seal the bags. They have been tested for sealing eff

Solder Balling Beading Effect

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 13 18:17:44 EST 1999 | Calvin Wong

We have this solder ball & beads around chip components since day one of manufacturing using non-clean process. We managed to eliminate the solder beads around ceramic type chip componenets when we have a slow ramp up of pre heat at solder reflow. Ho

Dave thaanks for your quick reply. The flow through probelm exists on several component, Examples; small Tan electolic caps.,electrolic epoxy caps. and one specfic lad on a resistor network. I have veried conveyor speed and readjusted heat sett ings

Re: V-Tek Tape and Reel Machines...

| Hey Ya'll! | | Have any of you ever worked with one of V-Tek's "Economax" tape and reel machines? The biggest thing I'm curious about is the type of cover tape that these machines use. It's something they call P.S.A. (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive)c

Bud Dry After DI? My, my, my...

Electronics Forum | Tue Jul 07 07:44:23 EDT 1998 | Wayne

| Hey Dave... I agree with Steve, get them dry. Even though you are using DI water, once exposed to normal atmoshere the DI residue water will become contaminated. Fungus and board failure down the road. Not to mention if you plug it into test an

wave solder

Electronics Forum | Fri Jun 12 11:15:50 EDT 1998 | Ryan Jennens

Hey all! The wave solder warrior is back. I have found a flux which leave almost no residue (the least yet), but because of its super low solids content I absolutely cannot get topside fillets. The multi-layer, two sided board is on a pallet w

Wave Profiling a Ceramic SMT Cap

Electronics Forum | Wed Jan 02 13:31:55 EST 2002 | PeteC

The rule-of-thumb is to follow the flux mfg.'s recommended profile to achieve their specified top side PCB temperature before making contact with the wave. Typical top side PCB temps are 100-120deg.C. Your wave contact time should be around 2 seconds

Rework Equipment

Electronics Forum | Sun Jul 28 23:11:52 EDT 2002 | caldon

Sam - If I owned Cal Driscoll Electronics and were looking for a rework system a few things I would consider: 1) Convection is key (IR as an under heater or pre heat is ok but not as the main heat source). 2)programming simple? User Friendly and easy

Soldering an 18 layer 2oz. copper board

Electronics Forum | Mon Oct 21 11:49:20 EDT 2002 | sueph

Mike, We are currently wave soldering several assemblies with with a lot of ground plane. The soldering handbook we have in house suggests a preheat temp for metal core multilayer boards of 230 to 270 degrees F' (110 to 130 C'). It was scary at fir

Tombstoning in Vapor Phase Process

Electronics Forum | Mon Feb 03 23:49:00 EST 2003 | Dreamsniper

Hi, Has anyone who's using vapor phase process able to help me troubleshoot tombstoning? I raed about uneven forces during reflow due to misalignment, pad design, paste volume deposition unevenness due to dirty stencils, worn stencil printer parts s
