We sometimes use a peelable mask the the PCB manufacturer (board house) adds as part of their process. It may seem an expensive option but avoids: Raising P/o's for tape/peelable mask as consumables booking & inspection Booking out to the shop floo

Understand that one..but the main issues is..do i really need to use ESD tape or non-ESD tape..since as we all know kapton tape is already expensive..if ESD kapton tape required in SMT line..the cost will be more higher.

Hi All, I have a question to ask. Do we really need ESD kapton tape to be use inside SMT line/ production? Anyway the purpose of the kapton tape is to protect gold finger/ wirebond area from solder splatter. Please advise.

Hi All, We are producing PCBA with COB process. We are using kapton tape to protect the COB pads from solder splashes/stains. Questions: 1) Is kapton tape an industry accepted way of protecting gold pads from solder splashes? 2) What are the chance

Q1. Is kapton tape an industry accepted way of protecting gold pads from solder splashes? A1. No. It is more accepted to resolve the reason behind the solder splats, so that the added labor and cost of taping is eliminated. Search the fine SMTnet Arc

In the purest sense of ESD control, we would have to say yes, use ESD tape to cover the gold fingers. The gold fingers are connected directly to input/output controls for the card, and, as we all know, when handling boards, we're supposed to avoid c

If you're using the Kapton tape to protect the gold fingers from solder splatter, my first instinct is to say, yes, you do need it. I've had the pleasure of paying to have gold fingers reworked in the past. It is not in-expensive; certainly not equa

No matter how good your process is, you will get solder on the gold fingers/lands unless they are protected. We have proven that solder will get on the gold fingers in the reflow oven. How that happens....we arent't 100% sure...there are a lot of the

We have some large plated through holes, that we protect with hand placed Kapton dots before they go into the wave. Is there a better option? We are going to see if the boardhouse can put them on for us but I was curious how others are/would do this.

Why are you placing Kapton dots on your board prior to wave soldering? * Prevent solder from touching the hole and the area around it. [If so, why do you need to do this?] * Prevent solder from flowing up through the hole and coating portions of the
