Non RoHs Requirement

Why not build with a leaded paste or solder pot? You'll have more than 3% lead after solder. Who cares about before solder - any testing will be done on the finished product.

Nonwetting Components - why won't components wet to solder?

Wagoner, Try switching to a transitional paste designed for no lead parts on a leaded board. Running your current paste at higher temps will dry out your flux too soon, which may be your problem.

Darby, To my knowledge no case of RoHS (lead) violation has ever gone to court in the EU. The only documented RoHS (lead) violation (again that Im aware of) has been settled out of court in the UK. Check here: http://www.eetimes.com/news/latest/s

This may be worth checking out are you sure it is flux residue and not undercured plasicizers coming from solder resists due to the higher Lead Free temperatures killing the undercured resist, this causes many no faults found and bridging, solderball

Nitrogen used in selective soldering

I am curious to know how others are providing N2 for their lead free selective soldering process. If you are utilizing a nitrogen generator, is it a PSA type or Membrane type? I am trying to get a handle on nitrogen purity and what purity is necessar

Re: Lead Free Solder used in BGA

| | Some of my friends ask me if sombody use lead free solder ball on BGA, espically PBGA packages. I wonder if 96.5Sn/3.5Ag (m.p .221 oC) or 58Bi/42Sn (m.p. 138 oC) would be suitable candidates? Do you have any experience on this subject? | | | | K

Thanks Grant and Dave. I have done extensive work on this and found some of the solder balls and solder flux does match my requirements. We have done many tests and have a good responses for both ceramic and plastic substrates. All is fine as long a
