SN100C wetting problems

Electronics Forum | Fri Jul 13 12:20:33 EDT 2007 | jdumont

There are a lot of areas that could be leading to this problem. We have some of these issues on some boards with this solder as well but the hole fill still meets IPC class 3 requirement of 75% vertical hole fill. Through hole diameter is important.

You're not the only one. We just got done with a batch of ICs that had a high reject rate at placement. The machine was rejecting about 70% of the parts because it didn't recognize the part. The reason it didn't recognize the part was due to the f

Your flux residues may be acceptable for your drain, but the solder balls won't be. You'll need to filter and dispose of the filters per your local city, county, and state regs. Either that or just boil the water off and dispose of the dry remains wi

Most QFP 128s have a 0.16mm wide lead. Might have to modify your pads if you'r buying some odd ball part. But generally 0.2mm should be OK for this part. You may never get good toe wetting. Most QFPs are cut apart after plating, thus the toes are

I have run design of experiments on screen printers and most times people forget about the type of board you are running; the condition of the board; manufacturer of the paste as I have seen Type 4 no-clean no-lead pastes react very differently using

We use a HEPCO model 3000-2 (hepcoblue.com) to shorten leads on various through hole components before we solder them on a pcb. You will have to verify they have a die that works with your particular LED module. If they do, this is what I would rec

SnPb Wave Soldering with SN100C HASL

Hi Phil, If the areas that are "turning gray" are masked, it would lead me to believe that you're simply oxidizing the SnCuNiGe finish on those areas. It's unsightly but not an actual defect. I think it's simply the biproduct of using SN100C as a s

N2 is a reflow process widener so to speak, for leaded reflow less of a impact, for LF more impact, and if using finer LF solder pastes T4,T5 and smaller paste deposits generally, it helps widen window for flux in paste in oxide protection during soa
