Rick, You are correct, it does need the solder dross in the pot to mirgate (pool) to an area. Some machine mfrs. are doing this already, others don't. For those that don't, there is a modification offered. It absolutley does not get into the wave. It

Your best bet would be to browse through you current solder suppliers catalog and pick your alloy. Most of them have a list of alloys and their melting points as well as what form they can be supplied in.

Several weeks ago, there were some postings about a new product for reducing dross in the wave solder pot. It was, I think, a liquid. Both for Tin/Lead and lead free solder. Anyone remember who this vendor is?

According to seho, for multi dipping the process window is very small and they would prefer drag soldering which has a wider window. What is your view on dip vs drag? Why? Other machine user also share the same suggestion?

Because some lead free solders are very corrosive to anything but titanium. Also "clean it very well" is kind of a crap shoot, isn't it? Did you get your solder tested for impurities and lead %age after you did the swap?

Is the flux rated for lead free? These higher temps will cause most lead rated fluxes to burn off prior to the wave. Jerry

Russ, I believe the concern over solders with bismuth in them was that if you did happen to get a little Pb in your solder joint, you could create an alloy that could melt at around 100 degrees C, and that's not all that warm. At least, that's what

Check out ERSA's Ecoselect 350. You can have 2 solder pots in the machine. 1 for SN/PB and 1 for Lead Free. It's a little more than $ than the others, but its a production machine! Not a toy.
