Your 316L stainless steel pot will not contain lead-free solder, over the long term. We'd bet that our solder machine equipment manufacturer will "swap" you a lead-free solder compatable pot for your current pot.

Also concider if you will be going lead free in the future as conversion can be a added expense. You may think about learning and going lead free from the begnining as the indestry is rapidly moving in this direction.

Can anyone recomend tools for cleaning & adjusting of a lead free solder pot? I know it's not recomended to use the standard stainless tools. I was told by an FSE to use wood (kitchen) tools. Thanks

We've talked about this previously. Search the fine SMTnet Archives for additional background. For instance: http://www.smtnet.com/forums/Index.cfm?CFApp=1&Message_ID=30307)

Chris, The Asahi SCS7 is Asahi's attempt at copying the SN100C and is a tin/copper/silicon alloy that melts at 227C so no, it is not a low temperature lead free alloy.

Having trouble identifying J-STD requirement on lead tinning. How far up to the cermaic package can you go?
