We use plastic standoffs that fit between the LED and the board. Live well, live long. For more than you wanted to know about standoffs: http://www.reedlink.com/ProductInfo~Productid~158255~ProductName~LED-Standoffs.html

No, 50 parts on one side and 4 SOIC leds on the other. The LEDs cannot go through the wave so I need to mask them off or cover them up to protect them during the wave.

I found it on white led. It's the gel lens sticking to the nozzle. Instead the yellow/blu/green led's have plastic lens. Use the smallest nozzle possible.

It's common the heat sink LED. Here's why: http://www.lunaraccents.com/educational-LED-thermal-management.html

We "bar" solder them too. (It's really pulsed resistance welding). It's slow but reliable. They seem to be designed for this process. By the way, Luxeon just came out with new LEDs that have nearly the same luminous flux, but that can withstand leadf

I have seen the application with hot-bar soldering machines for SOT 23 LED packages. I could not find any of the machines in my search that specially state SOT 23 packages, but you might want to check with these guys: http://www.unitekequipment.com/

We have seen this same defect. Led's not blinking during test and some tops popping off. Ended up being an msd problem. most of the lite-on components are msl level 4-6. We now bake and track them no problems seen in a while.

We have the same problems. We are using Universal equipment. In our case as I suspect in yours its a residue on the LED's not the machine.
