The directive is called RoHS. Meaning that is not only the lead that is the issue. The materials need to whithstand a hihger temperature, not only delta T is an issue (but huge). Moisture sensitive devices: how to handle these? You will see an increa

In addition to the potential problems you mentioned, add: * Barrel cracking of PTH and via. * Lifted pads. * Warped boards. And the reason you're not using a solder fountain to to solder this connector is? Or use an old trick we've done here on SMT

Yeah, adopting is the right word. In this new lead-free era spec.'s are made to stay within the scoop of the RoHS directive. The driving force for spec.'s should be reliability. Did you see any impurity level spec.'s yet in wave soldering for Cu, Au,

Shean made some good points and offered some good starting resources. Adding to what he said, I would also mention that many times, even a no-clean flux can cause contamination that requires cleaning. Our lab has dealt with numerous cases of client

Can you not just check the part when it is on line and being loaded into the machine? You should only need to check this once. Verify your setup to the bom and not your assembled boards to the BOM. Correct setup and program = correct boards. More
