Processing GIL MC5/0.035 Finished Thickness

Electronics Forum | Tue Nov 02 08:57:36 EST 1999 | Kevin DuCasse

This is our first time out processing material with a finished thickness less than the standard 0.062 FR-4 material. We have an assembly that uses GIL MC5 with a finished thickness of 0.035 and we are having difficulty at placment with the array "bo

Automation and low cost is an oxymoron sort of like jumbo shrimp. Automation will set you back $20,000-100,000. Optical comparitors aren't cheap either. Low cost means good eyeballs, a "golden" sample board and up-to-date documentation. Also low c

Chris A lot of people have reported sudden, fab lot related problems with Ni/Au pads. These are usually characterized by a discoloration of the gold and called cheerful names like "black pad disease". This can be a process problem at your fab house

How about some of the more rigid materials like the commercial fixture manufacturers use to machine solder/assembly fixtures from? Glastic, an anti-static version of Delmat and proprietary materials from MB manufacturing come to mind. Search the arc

When I evaluated a new glue type, I simply used a shear force tester (Chatillon) to compare the cured strengths of the different glues. I sampled parts of different types; 0805, SOT23, 1206, and various tantalum caps. I analyzed the data based on e

Bill, Thanks for the input. I took a brief look at the Brady machine on their website. I think their latest is the PAM 6000. It didn't appear it could keep up. My most difficult application is to put 42 labels on a 21-up board in under 1 min 20 sec.

I have a board, 4 spacers needed to be soldered on the board first with the normal 62Sn37Pb alloy. Then, capacitors are manually soldered on the boards. The density of the board is quite high. If we wave soldered capacitors first, there will be no p

Mixed technology criteria

Hi, We are using mixed technology in our PCBA. Would like to know whether there is any criteria governing/guiding the use of mixed technology in such aspects as: 1. Some SMDs cannot be used in some kind of PCB materials such as FR1? 2. Some SMDs are

Getting started with SMT

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 07 04:29:40 EDT 1999 | Dylan T. Kenny

Hi all. I have some experiance in regular electronics, but the hardest part for me was always the soldering, so I am very intrested in SMT. So what would be the best way to get started in SMT? I would prefer not to have to spend alot of money, but
