Electronics Forum | Wed Jul 16 21:48:43 EDT 2003 | sam

Dave, I believed you are really experienced in SMT soldering process. What I meant good connection, should really be "Visual check by naked eye OK". From your message, there are situation of "marginal solderability" that will lead to uncertainty

The PCB green mask will become darker after few times IR reflow? What is the reason? Any acceptance spec refer to green mask requirement? Any method to measure the color level for PCB green mask? By naked eye or machine?

Grainy SMT Solder Joint

Electronics Forum | Tue Apr 10 13:43:13 EDT 2001 | mparker

since you did not define what visual process you are inspecting with I will ask is this "grainy" appearance being detected with the naked eye only? Are you using magnification? if so, what power? Is this a SMT solder or through hole solder problem?

Solder defect problem.

Electronics Forum | Thu Nov 27 21:25:15 EST 2003 | Al Capone

Has anyone in this forum experience the can soldering defect? The can component is supposed to be placed on top of a group of RF components to protect the frequency from escaping and interfere with the adjacent RF component. After the reflow process,

Hi Guys, Can you give me a good bird's eye view in Verifying First Off via ICT Test. We currently verify our first off via naked eye for just the solder joint quality, orientation of parts etc. Aside from open and shorts, what can ICT verify? how c

cracked capacitors at SMT 1&2

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 21 15:33:56 EDT 2004 | Indy

I have seens cracks from AVX capacitors too. The thing is they already have micro cracks that are not visible to naked eye. When the capacitor is stressed the crack expands. One way of mitigating this is by tweeking your process. See how your singula

SPC and Wave

Re: Gold Immersion - Soft Joints

Electronics Forum | Tue Oct 26 08:17:54 EDT 1999 | William

Dave, Last question(s). What do I do about a gold porosity problem? Dave: How would I approach the board house to check for this? They use a very well known chemistry, but is that where the pblm lies? Or would it be in their process, cycle times

Which side of PCB should be prefered for screening...

... and don't forget proper stencil alignment. Invariably I find most bridging problems for fine pitch parts, etc. is caused by lousy alignment. The alignment must be verified under magnification, using the naked eye is not good enough. Use at least
