Help with flux residue spec

Electronics Forum | Mon Nov 01 19:52:47 EST 1999 | John

I have a thru-hole PCB that malfunctions when "no clean" flux is left on certain parts of the board. I have specified "the PCB shall have no flux residue". Our state side vendors (we have one offshore -they still use freon to clean) are complaining t

flux on PCB's after cleaning

We use Kester 186 flux and the STU people would sometimes find white residue after cleaning with Isopropyl at the solder station. We have Lenium (Petroferm)in our vapor degreasers, and now they use Lenium at their stations as well as final clean, an

Encapsulating water soluble flux residue?

Electronics Forum | Fri Dec 16 10:25:37 EST 2005 | solderiron

Rather than cleaning a water soluble flux residue off the board, by encapsulating the product. covering the board or the component with lets say a Hysol encasulant. Would this prevent the active flux residue from migrating and deteriorating the elect

Water wash flux and cleaning

Electronics Forum | Mon Jun 19 07:59:01 EDT 2017 | emeto

Hello, I am planning to use a water wash flux. As this is new to me, would you guys share what should I be aware of? I know cleaning PCBs itself presents issues. If you can share your experience so I can prepare better, it would be great.

flux on PCB's after cleaning

Dear JSK, It sounds like the root causes of your problem are two fold. First, excessive heat will polymerize the abietic acid found in rosin forming neo-abietic diamers and polymers which are much less soluble than the parent monomer. There are

Removal of No-Clean flux residue

Electronics Forum | Wed Sep 05 17:37:56 EDT 2001 | seand

Hello Jeff, If you have components on your board be careful of how low the frequency is that you will be applying to your board. Ultrasonics are great for cleaning stencils and bare boards at around 40kHz. These frequencies (and Lower)may however

Low standoff components, flux removal

Is there any field proven spray cleaning technique able to remove flux residues under OSRAM LEDs? Is it possible in principle? The problem is that OSRAM LEDs are low standoff ones and I absolutely have no idea how cleaning agent could get there. Mo

Zero flux or paste spattering?

Electronics Forum | Mon Jan 12 11:51:15 EST 2004 | Hussman

I don't believe you'll get an exact zero flux with no-clean pastes. Water soluable yes, but I don't see it happening with no-clean; at least not this year. As for spatter, you should be able to control this. Can you define what you call "spatter"?
