Soldering to Immersion Tin surface finish

Electronics Forum | Mon May 14 17:14:07 EDT 2001 | davef

First, consider checking the fine SMTnet Archives. Look for threads on "white tin", in addition to "immersion tin". Weve had a cuppla good ones of late. Merix [http://www.merix.com] gives a good comparison of different solderability preservatives

For Dean and the rest of you interested, I have reconciled many of my thermal issues with this machine and its peculiarities. The bottom side heater seems adequate, at 750 watts (not going to spend 10 grand extra for 500 more watts no matter what) a

Ah, the customer is always correct, again. And you are officially painted into a corner. Actually, your customer is not correct. Thinking that money is going to be saved by specifying copper component terminations [or whatever in the world they

Tombstoning

DaveF, Yeah you got that right...because the initial stages of the project, the products would only attach 1 passive (capacitor) hell when things got too cheesy they wanted to attach 20 caps or so....this is not like board assembly, this only 1 Flip

Hi, I have received a report form a board supplier, analysing the reuslts form non wetting problems we have been expereincing with their boards. I assumed it was due to the gold layer being too thin, thus allowing the nicklel layer to be exposed and

Non-wetting: PTH on double-side reflow

Electronics Forum | Wed Apr 06 11:10:47 EDT 2005 | smt_rookie

We process a double-side reflow board (10 ups). Chips and IC's on the bottom side while chips, IC's plus thru-hole connectors and IC sockets on top side (bottom side first then top side reflow). In the past, we were not encountering any soldering pro

Ionic Contamination Tests

Just a shame that the HASL fluids that are used contain Hydrobromic or hydrochloric acids or a mixture of the two and are full of strong wetting agents that are NON IONIC so the IC test results mean very little as they are checking for Ionics only. P
