Alternatives to ReDrilling for Non-Plated Holes Slots

Electronics Forum | Thu Nov 26 00:34:30 EST 1998 | Brian G.

Certain board designs require the unavoidable use of non-plated holes and slots. Presently, this requires a trip back to the drill house to open up the aforementioned holes, to remove the unwanted plating. In situations requiring non-plated holes and

distance from the edge Non-plated mounting hole and with copper pads ?

Hi everybody, I have a question about the minimum distance to leave beteween a non non-plated mounting hole with copper pads and the edge of the PCB. Is there any formula or rule to apply ? For example for a hole of diamater equals to 5.6mm which

Hi Mark, Couterbore is possible in two way's during PCB Manufacturing. Couterbore plated and non-plated. Meaning that the entire hole will either have to be Plated or Non-Plated. Prefered Methode is Plated, to accomplish this your PCB house would

Toe Fillets

Toe fillets are not required per IPC. Toe fillets could be used as a process indicator, if you desire; I would not. Gull wing leads are typically cut off on the ends when manufactured; this exposes the non-plated material in the lead, typically coppe

QFP Solder PROBLEM

Agree with Dan - we have had non-plated IC's that are a bit corroded come in and seen similar problems. Could it be that the tinning/plating process missed a corner somehow???

I'm not aware of a standard requirement. One screw hole diameter seems to used commonly.

Is there any chance that something like a riv-nut might be used for mounting purposes or is it just a screw hole?

Solder in via holes causing printing problems

On solder in vias: It looks like the via are not solder masked well and pick-up solder either: * Solder coating ... OR * During leveling It's possible that the design specifies openings in the solder mask for these via. On solder in the unsupporte

Solder balls on solder side!!

Electronics Forum | Wed Feb 28 03:57:46 EST 2001 | peterbarton

Are you using a water based flux? Are the solder balls mainly around or near non-plated holes or near the edges of the PCB? If so the preheat must be set so the water content of the flux is fully evaporated before the board hits the solder wave. If
