Beat rate

Electronics Forum | Fri Feb 04 15:45:36 EST 2000 | jseagle

For a single board that takes 5 minutes to build on my machine, is it better to do it as a single board or a 4 up panalized board that will take 20 minutes to build? And why?

BGA solder failure rate

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 28 13:36:14 EDT 1999 | Bart Smith

I am a design engineer and have a circuit board design with a 292 pin BGA on it. The board manufacturer is experiencing a failure rate of about 2.8% on the BGA device due to soldering problems. This is my first experience with BGA. How does the 2.

class 3 labor rate

Electronics Forum | Wed Aug 20 10:31:41 EDT 2003 | billdampier

We have some new customers that are requiring class 3 IPC standards, and my question is, how would that translate into a labor rate increase as compared to class 2 rates? I'm assuming the labor quote would increase by at least 15-20%, if not more. An

BGA rework rate

Electronics Forum | Thu Feb 10 08:25:02 EST 2005 | marakas

Could anyone advise what BGA rework rate we should expect with product that has 4 BGAs (224 pins, 196 pins, 160 pins, 48 pins). Negative factor is that we have old and tired pick & place - Panasonic MPA-G1 or MPA-V without AOI.

Pick failure rate

I would appreciate if you can share your experience with pick failure rates, preferably for 0402 parts. Also, what percentage do you consider acceptable?

Allowable ramp rate

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 18 15:05:58 EST 2001 | blnorman

What is the maximum allowable thermal ramp rate for wave solder. We have a "short" machine used for selective soldering. To get the boards up to temp, we need to exceed our normal 2C/sec. Are there any IPC documents governing this process? Anyon

Pick failure rate

For 0402's, if the operator is paying attention, our equipment Panasonic CM 402/602/NPM's run at about .001%. Again this is dependent on an operator that pays attention to the fail rate. We usually don't have too many problems with 0402's, LED's ar

Re: Beat rate

Takes 5 minutes?? Does that include the 3 - 5 seconds for loading and fiducial inspection. If so it 12 - 20 seconds you will save with a panel. Depending on the panel you may be able to use just a board break fixture. Reduce handling when you can.

Allowable ramp rate

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 18 16:49:17 EST 2001 | davef

J-STD-001 - Requirements For Soldered Electrical & Electronis Assemblies is the governing document. It defines no specific limits like you mention. It states words to the effect that preheating should not do bad things.

Pick failure rate

By tape manufacturer you can have up to two empty slots in the tape. That means you should have two retries after the first pick up.
