Our SMTproduction has next troubles : 1. irregular 0603-components in tapes (different solder shapes) makes vision errors on placement devices 2. big solder amounts makes pickup and placing errors 3. some tapes delivery delays , so production halts f

Moisture under chip capacitors

Epoxy is hydroscopic. A cavity will form when the cure furnace reaches the boiling point of water. The steam expansion creates the pocket. It can be large enough to be filled with molten solder from the wave machine and cause a hard short under th

Radial capacitors have water gain

Electronics Forum | Mon May 10 12:15:46 EDT 1999 | Boca

We have been having an ongoing problems with radial electrolytic capacitors (thru hole)for some time. 1. When we wash them in our inline cleaners the sleeving shrinks up from the PCB leaving the 'can' exposed. Some designs have traces on the surf

Electronics Forum | Tue Nov 30 15:38:27 EST 1999 | Wendy Casker

Hi, I am looking for land patterns for 0612 and 0508 chip capacitors. Because they are not standard (yet) package sizes, i am having trouble finding a standard land pattern. (If you don't know what these are, picture a 1206 or an 0805 with the te

Hi Bill, there are a couple of things you should check. Most likely you have too much paste which is squashed at the insertion of the cap. - the paste height, around 7 mils should do. Too much paste will cause shorts under the cap at insertion which

I too have followed all of the useful suggestions provided herein. I still found some tombstoning which was specific to a manufacturers lot. I changed the reel to another brand and the problem went away. I suspect contamination or oxidation on the co
