and you think youve got it hard

Hi Chris. would have loved to have tried PIHIR on the board, except it was single sided. Still, it would have solved the earthing issues.

OSP Finish-Lead Free Solder Paste

Electronics Forum | Wed Jul 19 14:53:39 EDT 2006 | amol_kane

i think the most important thing to consider is the # of reflows. is this a double sided assembly? if so OSP degrades during the first LF reflow. also there are many studies out there that show the wetting on OSP is inferior to some of the other comm

CP642

Electronics Forum | Fri Jul 21 15:29:20 EDT 2006 | choppy

I've seen something like that on our CP5. The problem was the nut retaining the leadscrew to the bearing (motor side) that became too tight due to an error from the operator.

Blistering issue, mixed LF/SnPb process

Electronics Forum | Fri Jul 28 08:51:50 EDT 2006 | russ

Are all these defects related to the trace that enters pad? Looking at #2, the good fillet has side trace entry and the bad has front entry. I would suggest that a profile check is in order, then the paste would be next culprit. Russ

Can UP 2000 printer work with R and L justified stencils?

Electronics Forum | Mon Jul 31 21:14:30 EDT 2006 | chrisgriffin

Does any one know how far left or right from center the aperatures can be? If I had a 6" board, and a stencil with cut-outs for both sides right and left of center, would I have problems?

Solder Ball After Reflow Process

Electronics Forum | Wed Aug 16 14:30:31 EDT 2006 | slthomas

What do you mean by "near the pad of SMT component"? The end of the pad, side of the pad, or perhaps adjacent to the part body, between terminations? One solder ball per component, or many, perhaps of different sizes?

Fine pitch wave soldering

Electronics Forum | Fri Sep 15 05:37:49 EDT 2006 | Rob

Are you talking 0.02" (1.225mm) if so then no it's not a great idea. if you must wave it can you go to a PLCC and through hole socket it on the other side of the board?

Most companies are double sided paste and reflow, then selective soldering the thru-hole. This will give you the best results and with much more consistency than with Wave Soldering.

Rigid Flex Application

Electronics Forum | Fri Sep 15 21:24:28 EDT 2006 | realchunks

Use a back door connector. Place and reflow the connector like any other. But, the PC bosrd is cut open directly under the connector allowing the male portion to go thru the PCB and mate with the female connector. Both PCBs would have SMDs mounted

SMT glue dispensers

Electronics Forum | Wed Sep 20 16:34:13 EDT 2006 | jimmyjames

no, we can't go to screening as the majority of the products being glued are already stuffed with through-hole that has been bent and clipped. (boards weren't laid out in a fashion that allows for double sided SMT then through hole insertion)
