solder SnPb wire to gold plated IC

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 13 21:02:19 EDT 2007 | Sam

Anyone experience using SnPb wire to gold plated ICs? I have tried to solder the SnPb wire to the gold plated ICs lead, but the surface finishing is dull. Can anyone explain that to me? Why it is not shinny surface? Any recommendation?

Pb Free Components and Sn/Pb Solder

Electronics Forum | Thu May 06 10:52:08 EDT 2004 | John S

Many component manufacturers are moving to Pb free terminations. I've been doing a literature study of Pb free processing and have found several articles that indicate Pb-free paste with Sn/Pb terminations leads to early fatigue failures. Does anyo

SAC solder balls reflow with Sn/Pb paste - Voids Issue

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 04 14:48:49 EDT 2006 | cw

My soak at 150C - 180C for approx. 85sec to 100sec. I believe this is sufficient. I can't change my paste because customer wants to use SnPb paste with SAC solder balls. They claimed that they have sucessful result with other CM. I need to know if

Pb-Free BGA on SnPb Assemblies

Electronics Forum | Thu May 01 11:26:22 EDT 2008 | cdsullivan

Thank you for the reply. We do build SnPb assemblies as well as Pb-Free. I am aware of the Silver paste. However, what impact is there with reflowing SnPb components with a max temp of say 220C when using the higher Pb-Free temps?

Solder Paste for Thermal Cycling application (-40 to 150 Degree Celcius)

We use SNPb for such applications (PCBA for aircraft). We tried SAC305 but recieve no good quality, so now only SNPb. If you will find good solution - please write. Because now we have some problems with BGA - no SNPb balls. And need to reball (addit

Sn/Ag Terminations with Sn/Pb Solder

Electronics Forum | Wed Jan 03 18:44:13 EST 2001 | Todd Koeppel

If we procure parts with a Sn/Ag termination, can we still use standard Sn/Pb solder pastes and the current reflow and wave processes?

Sn/Pb paste with SAC plating

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 21 16:31:23 EDT 2004 | Tony

I have a component manufacturer that is using Sn/Ag/Cu plating on chip caps and resistors. Does anyone have any information on compatability with Sn/Pb paste. Are any changes in profile required? Is the reliability of the solder joint at risk? Tony

SAC solder balls reflow with Sn/Pb paste - Voids Issue

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 04 16:54:24 EDT 2006 | cw

OK. Thanks!! Lastly, is it the nature of the chemistry that Sn/Pb solder mixed with Pb-free alloy will be getting voids? If so, what's the physic/chemistry behind it?

Lead Free BGA's on non-RoHS Assembly

Electronics Forum | Mon Jan 29 10:41:10 EST 2007 | davef

Many high rel assemblers reball their LF BGA with SnPb balls. In other less demanding environments, SnPb paste with LF BGA produces acceptable reliability.

Rohs and non rohs components on a board

Electronics Forum | Mon Feb 19 15:32:42 EST 2007 | blnorman

We use SnPb paste and bar with leaded and non-leaded component finishes. The predominant finish on components we use is Tin, there are a few NiPdAu. We've had no problems with the component finishes used in the SnPb process.
