Either you need a stronger flux or the solderable surfaces need to be reconditioned. Most board fabricators don't do reconditioning. Search the fine SMTnet Archives for discussion on ROSA. EMPF is one place that does ROSA on a contract basis.

This sounds like you are using a straight ramp profile. For this type of an assembly you may need to use a soak type profile. Most solder paste providers show you both types of profiles that work best with that paste. I would try using that profil

Don't know of anything really automated, Winslow Automation offers solder spheres on water soluble tape and a company called the Waveroom Plus in NH offers a machine reasonably priced but it is not automated. There are companies out there that offer

Yes, Loctite 3880. It works out at about $160 for a tube of 30ml. It can be dispensed or printed. We found you needed a lot less than with solder as it doesn't wick or spread much.

Patrick, I learned at a Lead-Free seminar, where the seminar lecturer was a proponent of Bismuth in soldering, that Bismuth is actually "safe to eat" and is one of the few non-toxic metals around.

We use a Marantz ISpector and as long as you program it correctly, taking into consideration any shadowing from adjacent parts, it does a superb job catching non-solders, head in pillow and insufficients.

Would suggest you have a re-look at your reflow profile. There could possibly be a higher thermal demand to solder the Pb-free version of these screw terminals considering that external plating has changed.

Yes we have a set Hot-Tweezers. I should have stated above that all of the resistors have been removed already and the new parts are being soldered on. I was just looking for a quicker method of rework. But thanks for the ideas.

Hi Bruce It will be using a hot air knife for solder. Meanwhile, there are many bridging at fine pitch socket pin after wave. It isn't easy to tuoch up. So, consider the air knife can help a bit. Thanks

I know this is not the correct forum to post chip "reworking" questions but you guys have been very helpful in the past. My question is this, when we rework BGA components most of the time the solder reflows at a normal temp and all is well. On occ
