This is the dilema during this transition period. Here is a tip: If you see typcial solder joints on a lead free process, but only on one component type....it probably has a significant quantity of lead in it (ex. Sn90/Pb10...and so on) If using T

Calling all Metcal users.... I am trying to get an idea of the expected tip life of a given Metcal solder tip and I am met with the generic response of "there are too many parameters" to give such a number, either in average number of solder joints

Yins are bad, this guy's serious. Generally, solder pastes are comprised of: 90% solder powder, 5% flux, 4% solvents, and 1% activators [by weight]. Where: * Solder powder, when reflowed, is a metal bonding agent that mechanically and electrically

We've recently encountered this problem where one of our .050" pitch BGA's were reflowing at the wave thus causing shorts... The board was profiled with probes stuck to a QFP solder joint, an 0603, and one of the BGA joints. There was an almost 70

Hi, That's the main problem. I quickly checked out the motorola document, and thanks for posting that, but the main reason for failure seems to be that the ball is not touching the solder pad. I wonder what kind of ball size tolerance they had on th

The original issue was Co. does not need to go Pbfree, but some BGA's they use are only available Pbfree. They don't want to throw away Pb BGA stock, so some boards might have a combination of both Pb and Pbfree BGAs. The question basically was Shou

I found some machine manufacturers put convection nozzles in line parallel with each other instead of staggering them so you get a nice parallel line up the board where there is no flux be it no residue alcohol or VOC Free. The best I could find was

80-90% of an average SM component is non wetable (pushing away solder). So if you would use a single smooth lambda wave (massive amount of molten metal) the negative force of the non-wetable part of the component would be so high that the solder wou
