Hi Is there any standard or requirement to test the solder under high power operation? For example, a power switching device, what is the failure mode of the solder joint after the whole equipment undergone a high power (current / voltage) environmen

Honestly, I inspect the wetting and the solder volume. I leave mechanical testing to the CEO types that pry on components with screwdrivers and tell you it feels weaker than he thinks it should.

If the hand soldering is done right and you use little to no extra flux (other than whats in the solder wire) you should be ok. You should still verify with some testing however... You need to make sure any flux used is activated, thus rendered benig

Here's a crude wettability test. Take a PCB - both types of finish - print them, and reflow with no components using your standard profile. Observe the wetting spread and flow of the solder paste. This rules in/out that it's PCB solderability.

Dave, You've got me worried - All of the boards we've tested to this point are LF HASL. Why do you say "can't be ENIG"? Am I missing something? We have not sectioned soldered boards as yet but plan to shortly. Thanks.

Hi all, Just wondering if somebody is using the debridging tool (Vitronics) on the wave solder machine succesfully with SN100C. After testing for a while, my conclusion is to not even try....does not work...but maybe I am wrong? Thanks for your fee

Boards with the LF hasl finish applied too thin will genrally pass the IPC test. That is some pretty agressive flux they call out. The boards usually wave solder just fine as well. Reflow is where the you see the problem.

Some solder paste formulations can be frozen with no effect. Other formulations ... not so much. Can you compare this questionable solder paste with 'known good' paste of this part number in a structured test?

What are the differences between the classes? Essentially we solder the components onto the board, test them, and ship them out so this is all a learning experience for me as the new QE on board.

i've a competitor selective soldering and i would like test the adique acide to clean the nozzle. How much do you use approximativemely to clean a 8/4 mm nozzle?
