Dear DeanM, I have the same thoughts about quantity of solder paste. Also I think about poor wetability of some pads (walls) on modems. I'm glad that my ideas are the same like yours and other members of forum. I will try to increase pads dimensions.

My operator applied flux gel ALPHA WS-609 on MG P/N FTH101XAP (CAP ALUM 100UF 50V 20% SMD) before aqueous washing the PCBAs. Solder paste used was ALPHA WS-820. Now the caps have yellow stains. Any solution to this is appreciated. Tks

Many years ago (20+) we did this by preassembling the 2 parts into a mini leadframe with high temp solder paste, which was a pain but then they could be dropped in trays, surface mounted and hit the line clean. I'm guessing you have a low value cap
