As in more dwell? We see the same problem with through holes connected to power or ground planes. The solder reaches the plane and stops. We are having our boards re-designed to increase the thermal relief and expand the hole size. We are also tr

since 1999 we use Heraeus PD944, in time we tested Loctite also but had some issues with it - or with our machine specialist :)) we dispense with Fuji CP (2 , 3 & 4) it only creates problems when its on the solder pads ;-) best wishes

I was looking through a solderability spec and ran across the term Nordau (Terminal finish - 90Sn/10Pb, Nordau, Matte Sn). I've never heard of this finish before, what is it?

Choices are: * Respin the board to move the via so that it is no longer under the pad. * Have the board fabricator plug and plate over the via. Search the fine SMTnet Archives for background.

immersion ...easily changes color.. See that's the GREAT thing about immersion coatings. If they change color, they probably will not solder well. Try that with other coatings.

Well....I think you can also thank the Chinese and their unbridled appetite for anything metal. It's not only Tin.

Fastek, I just take every opportunity to point out the nonsense of lead-free. In todays assembly environment the exempt military and hi-rel products are manufactured cheaper than lead-free consumer products. Now does this make any sense to you?

Yes, if cost is the concern. You can consider to try other alloys, like SCN from Nihon or SCS from Singapore Asahi, cost is definitely cheaper than SAC and SACX. I think the price is around 15~20 USD per Kg.

Surely all alloys must be experiencing the same increase rate- with Tin being the main alloy in all Leadfree Bars.
