This is not an HVAC unit. This is a small unit attached to a production machine to keep the solder paste from drying out prematurely or slumping. The volume of air being cooled and desicated would be less than 3 or 4 cubic meters.

McMaster-Carr carries plastic spatulas Look on Page 2424 of their catalog. A package of 36 is roughly $20.00. That should last you awhile

Thanks for the advice. The sockets I am finding all require some pressure to be exerted which has got me worried if my idea will work. I also came across some hollow carriers for the IC but not sure if it will work without solder.
