Hello everybody. I can't get black fiducials when laser-cutting a SMT stencil. They are grey or beige but never black. Can someone help me? Thanks!

I think stencil manufacturers back fill half etched fiducials with black epoxy or something. I know I've had some worn and that's what I've done for my vision systems to be happy again.

OLD DEK manuals actually have a procedure for fiducial fill, and they used to sell a kit (for way too much $$$$); since usually pretty well covered by stencil vendors probably not on the list any more. www.dekhead.com

Basically, what is the main issue which requires you to use black fiducials? Stencil mark recognition issues? Solder printer machines have ability to adjust the brightness or contrast.

Why would they wear off? Many people use ultrasonic stencil cleaners which will breakdown the epoxy over time and wash it away.

Just wanted to ask what is the correct test method i need to do to ensure that my cleaning solvent is still OK to use. This is in particular for stencil cleaning, carriers, pcb etc. I am using a jet cleaner with recirculating solvents.

A few of the LEDs on the cameras of my stencil printer are really dim. I want to replace them and not have to buy a whole new light ring board. Does anyone know what kind of LED they are? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not to sound combative, but are you alright with sharing the issues you've run into with them? Just curious because I've used them exclusively for the last couple years with nothing but great results.

You can cut space saver hard frames now everywhere at lower price, so I wouldn't recommend Vector Guard as it adds additional expense to get the frames.Maintenance of the frames adds more time and expenses as well.
