The pressure sensitive tape is used as an alternative to heat sealed cover tape. It works usually quite well and is easily applied by the taping machine, but it can create some problems in the tape feeder. In the Surftape, Cal is referring to, the c

Compared to paper tape, I find a higher defect rate on 0402 components in plastic tape even without the PSA tape. The plastic tape appears to be less shock absorbent and this may be the reason for feeding problems on small components. PSA tape has it

If you want to tinker a bit with old machines, you could buy an inexpensive ( under $ 10,000 ) used Pick&Place machine and reverse the polarity on the tape feeding motor. If you don't heat seal the cover tape, but use pressure sensitive cover tape,

change of carrier tape from monolayer to trilaminate material...we found out through experimentation that the these carrier tape material when combined with a similar cover tape type would react differently even at similar taping parameters. monolaye
