ECD has a product called the Temprobe that is an alternative to hi-temp solder, tapes and glues for thermocouple attachedment. The cool thing about the Temprobe is that you can use it on a pasted board too. http://www.saunderstech.com/

In order of effectiveness / accurate reading: 1. Hi-Temp Soldering 2. ECD's Temprobe or new Flexiprobe http://www.ecd.com 3. Glue, such as SMT adhesive 4. Aluminum tape Capton tape should not be used as it expands at reflow temps.

Saunders Technology... or ECD (makers of M.O.L.E.) has what is called a TEMPROBE that will work how you want... even in "wet" solder paste. Maybe others here can tell you if it works well or not, I use KIC. www.ECD.com/saunders/tp.htm

Hi Steve You really didn't tell us what is going wrong. Not enough heat to melt this hi temp solder (290C/554F)? Too much heat and burning up the pad/board? Thermo falling off? (remove all the original solder) You won't find Loctite 384 all that remo
