No I was actually thinking more on the lines of this. http://pcdandf.com/cms/content/view/3845/95/ I think if you try and put solder in the hole you will not have a flat or well filled hole in the end.

My first problem is that when the unit homes, the print carriage seems to be traveling too far back. After the carriage reaches its mechanical limit, it continues to try and move back, eventually throwing up a print carriage error. Any ideas?

Try this. Basic reflow profile build up and explanation of its parts: ramp-up, soak or no soak, peak, cooling. Good starting point.

If the connectors can withstand reflow temperatures you might consider solder preforms. I have personally never tried them. I beleive that you can get them in any configuration desired. Indium and Alpha are some suppliers that I am aware of.
