Re: BGA SOLDER BALL to SURFACE PAD size relationship

Electronics Forum | Thu Feb 24 11:05:53 EST 2000 | Russ

I usuallly like to have the pad size the same size as the ball up to +2mil, the pcb solder mask opening to be +4 mil from the pad size (I have found this to aid in Xray inspection for opens since you can see the little tail of the solder wicking up t

You might try a no HASL spec on your fids...but shelf life may hamper copper quality. Not a pleasant situation...opertors tend to polish the fids with erasers to compensate but this leads to eraser "bits" in your equipment and your solder! Maby op

White residue on PCB's

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 11 09:55:10 EDT 2000 | Ian Harrison

Some boards that are populated by one of our subcontractors are getting a white powdery residue forming on them. I think it is the non clean flux and process which they are using that is causing the problem. Their process is as follows. Flux is put i

Head, There are no rules on what is placed by machine. Some things to look at: 1. vision alignment issues a. board size ( FOV ) 2. Machine pick-up a. special nozzle b. off center pick-up (depending on machine this could cause a problem) 3. Re

We have been using a hot air knife on Electrovert equipment for a few years. It must be set up properly for a given machine, primarily the distance from the trailing edge of the wave. Sometimes the set up must be adjusted for the assembly being sol

Have a project that use to have them. End up getting a little grayer every time they came around. Finally got the design Engineer to redesign the board with through holes. Now the part is used the way it was intended to be! Ended up costing us more m

Autolube in reflow ovens....does it work?

Electronics Forum | Mon Aug 14 01:49:14 EDT 2000 | Joe

G'day, I am interested in hearing about the automatic lubrication of the chains in a reflow oven. The systems I have seem to work to a certain degree. They either lubricate too much, so we end up getting oil on the edges of the PCB, or not enough, w

Mike, we use carrier's as a matter of course on all wave products, it let's us keep the conveyor width the same all the time so speed's up change overs and eleimiates one more thing that can be set wrong. The main aim of the exercise is to be able
